April 26, 2026

The Mapa Roku (Map of the Year Award) is a renowned cartographic competition in the Czech Republic, organized annually by the Czech Cartographic Society. The competition recognizes outstanding cartographic works across several categories, such as atlases, educational works, and student projects. For the 2025 edition, the expert committee of the Czech Cartographic Society evaluated all submitted works and selected the winners and nominees across these categories.

I’m happy to share that my master’s thesis, Flood Vulnerability in Punjab, Pakistan: A Geospatial Analysis and Cartographic Approach, received the Mapa Roku 2025 in the category Student Cartographic Works from the Czech Cartographic Society.

I am especially proud that the atlas component of the thesis was highlighted, as it represents the effort to make complex spatial data more accessible, understandable, and useful for decision-making.

My thesis focused on assessing flood vulnerability in Punjab, Pakistan through geospatial analysis and a strong cartographic approach, with additonal emphasis on the design and development of an atlas that communicates spatial patterns of flood risk and vulnerability. The project combines GIS-based vulnerability assessment with thematic cartography to support a better understanding of flood exposure and regional disparities.
